Modular Induction Motors, Type AMI
AMI engineered modular induction motors are designed to deliver high reliability and availability in the toughest and most demanding applications. Built on the motor industry's most successful modular platform, these motors are tailor-made to meet specific customer needs. They offer the flexibility to be adapted to highly specific configurations while complying with all relevant international standards. Versions are available for both direct-on-line (DOL) and variable speed drive (VSD) operation.
AMI modular induction motors feature a welded steel frame and are available with standard shaft heights ranging from 400 to 630 mm. They can be mounted horizontally or vertically. While technical data in standard catalogs often shows 50 Hz specifications, these motors operate efficiently at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, with synchronous speeds from 500 to 3600 rpm. Output powers covered in standard catalogs reach up to 8,000 kW, with the complete range extending up to 23,000 kW.
Mounting Arrangements
Standard mounting arrangements for AMI motors include:
- IM B3 (Code II: IM 1001): Horizontal foot mounted
- IM V1 (Code II: IM 4011): Vertical flange mounted (free shaft end facing downwards)
- Other mounting arrangements are available upon request.
Enclosure and Cooling Options
AMI motors are available with the following standard cooling methods and protection types:
- IC01 / IP24W: This weather-protected motor features a shaft-mounted cooling fan inside the housing. The design reduces the ingress of rain, snow, and airborne particles into electrical parts by ensuring the average velocity in the air intake path does not exceed 3 m/s, allowing heavier particles to settle. The air intake path includes three acute direction changes in excess of 90 degrees to optimize flow rate. It is protected against splashing water from any direction.
- IC611 / IP55: A fully enclosed design featuring an air-to-air heat exchanger mounted on the motor. Shaft-mounted fans are fitted both inside and outside the casing to supply internal and external cooling circuits. It provides protection against dust and splashing water from any direction.
- IC81W / IP55: A fully enclosed motor fitted with an air-to-water heat exchanger. A shaft-mounted fan inside the casing supplies the internal cooling circuit. It is protected against dust and splashing water from any direction.
- IC31 / IP55: This version is equipped with inlet and outlet pipes for remote cooling air. Essentially, this is the AMI motor frame without an upper cover, offering protection against dust and splashing water from any direction.
- IC01: Features asymmetric inside air circulation.
Packaging
All motors are supplied in standard seaworthy packages suitable for long-distance transportation by sea or land. Packaging options include:

Warranty Period
- Standard Warranty: 12 months after commissioning, or 18 months after delivery, whichever comes first.
