Product Description
The AXR series represents the latest generation of multipurpose rib-cooled high voltage induction motors, designed with high power density, flexible configurability, and built-in serviceability. Built on years of manufacturing experience, these motors set a new industry benchmark by delivering more watts per kilogram than previous rib-cooled motor designs.
Thanks to their high power density, AXR motors can often be selected one frame size smaller than conventional products for the same output, helping to save space and enable more compact installations. The motors are available with shaft heights from 315 mm to 500 mm, covering outputs up to 1,800 kW, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically.
AXR motors comply with major industry standards including API 541 and Shell DEP, and can be configured to meet customer-specific requirements. The motors feature a rugged cast iron frame and are supplied with IC411 cooling and IP55 protection as standard. Optional configurations include IC416 cooling and IP66 protection, with IP66 performance verified by a leading independent testing organization.
Technical data is available for 50 Hz and 60 Hz operation, covering synchronous speeds from 500 to 3,600 rpm.

Enclosure and Cooling
Standard Combination: IC411 / IP55
AXR motors are equipped with an external shaft-mounted fan that uses surrounding air for cooling. The motors are protected against dust ingress and water jets.
IP55 Protection
- Dust protection: Limited dust ingress is permitted, but not in quantities sufficient to affect motor operation.
- Water jet protection: Water projected by a nozzle against the motor from any direction has no harmful effect.
Optional Combination: IC416 / IP55
AXR motors are also available with IC416 cooling. In this arrangement, an additional motor drives the cooling fan, providing the required cooling for low-speed applications, especially when the motor is supplied via a variable speed drive.
Optional Protection: IP66
AXR motors are available with protection ratings up to IP66.
- Dust protection: The enclosure is completely dust-tight.
- Water jet protection: Powerful water jets from a 12.5 mm nozzle directed against the enclosure from any direction have no harmful effect.
Cooling Method IC411
- Frame surface cooling: The primary coolant circulates in a closed circuit inside the motor and transfers heat through the external surface of the motor, in addition to heat transfer via the stator core and other heat-conducting parts. The final coolant is the surrounding medium. The surface may be plain or ribbed, with or without an outer shell to improve heat transfer.
- Self-circulation: The coolant is moved in relation to the rotational speed of the main motor, either by the rotor alone, by a component mounted directly on the rotor, or by a fan or pump unit mechanically driven by the rotor or main motor.
Packaging
Standard seaworthy export packaging is provided, including plywood cases or fumigated wooden cases. The packaging is suitable for long-distance transportation by sea and land.
Warranty
Standard warranty: 12 months after commissioning, or 18 months after delivery, whichever comes first. Extended warranty periods are available upon request.
