2. Product Description
The NMK series modular slip-ring motors are purpose-built for heavy-load, high-inertia applications that demand high starting torque with low starting current. Their slip-ring design reduces mechanical stress during starting, protecting the driven equipment and extending its service life, while delivering high torque across the entire speed range and maximizing availability.
These motors are widely used in mills, crushers, fans, and conveyors across the mining, cement, and metals industries, and provide a reliable power source for pumps in the water industry as well as pumps, compressors, and mixers in petrochemical and hazardous-area applications.
Key design features:
- Shaft heights from 400 to 710 mm
- Standard cooling and protection combinations of IC611/IP55 and IC81W/IP55
- Ratings up to 10,000 kW
- Welded steel frame for rigidity and durability
- Slip-ring unit available with permanent contact brushes or brush lifting gear; in both cases, the slip rings are enclosed in a housing at the N-end, separated from the main motor frame
- Liquid Resistance Starter (LRS) available on request

3. Mounting Arrangements
Standard mounting arrangements are provided, with other options (e.g., IM1002) available on request:
- Code I: IM B3
- Code II: IM 1001 — Horizontal foot-mounted
4. Enclosure and Cooling
Standard combinations are IC611/IP55 and IC81W/IP55; other cooling methods (IC616, IC86W, etc.) are available on request.
IC611/IP55 — The motor is fully enclosed with an air-to-air heat exchanger mounted on the frame. Shaft-mounted fans are fitted inside the motor frame and inside the slip-ring housing, with an additional external fan supplying the outside cooling circuit. The motor is protected against dust and splashing water from any direction.
IC81W/IP55 — The machine is totally enclosed, equipped with a machine-mounted air-to-water heat exchanger and an SRU housing-mounted air-to-water heat exchanger. A shaft-mounted fan inside the casing supplies the internal cooling circuit. The motor is protected against dust and splashing water from any direction.
