Rib Cooled Motors - AXR Series

The AXR series represents the latest generation of versatile rib-cooled electric motors, featuring high power density, flexible configuration options and convenient maintenance design. It is built on decades of accumulated experience in electric motor manufacturing.

Setting a new industry benchmark, AXR rib-cooled motors deliver an exceptional power-to-weight ratio. Thanks to its high power density, users can often select a motor with one smaller frame size for the same output power compared with conventional motors. This feature saves installation space and enables more compact system layout.

AXR motors comply with major industrial standards including API 541 and Shell DEP, as well as customized customer specifications. The motor adopts robust cast iron frame construction. IC411 cooling system and IP55 protection are supplied as standard; IC416 cooling and optional IP66 protection are also available. The IP66 protection rating has been validated by an authoritative independent testing institute.

The AXR series covers power output up to 1800kW with shaft heights ranging from 315mm to 500mm. Both horizontal and vertical mounting types are supported. This catalog lists technical parameters of AXR motors under 50Hz and 60Hz, with synchronous speed ranging from 500 rpm to 3600 rpm.

2. Mounting Arrangements for AXR Motors

• IM B3 (IM 1001): Standard floor mounting, horizontal foot-mounted design with feet downward.
• IM V1 (IM 4011): Flange mounting, vertical solid shaft with flange and free shaft end facing downwards.
• IM B35 (IM 2001): Combined foot-and-flange horizontal mounting. The flange is integrated on the end shield, equipped with one cylindrical shaft extension and downward feet.

3. Enclosure and Cooling System

Standard Configurations

IC411 / IP55
AXR motors are fitted with a shaft-mounted external fan, which draws ambient air for heat dissipation. The enclosure provides protection against dust ingress and water jets. The working principle can be found in the attached diagram.

IC416 / IP55
IC416 cooling version is optional. A separate auxiliary motor drives the cooling fan, ensuring sufficient cooling performance for low-speed working conditions, especially for applications driven by variable speed drives.

Protection Grade Definition

• IP55: Dust may enter the housing in small amounts, but will not interfere with motor operation. No damage will be caused by water jets sprayed from any direction via nozzle.
• IP66: Fully dust-tight enclosure. Resists powerful water jets (12.5mm nozzle) impacting the motor from all directions without adverse effects.

IC411 Cooling Principle

Frame surface cooling: The primary cooling medium circulates inside the motor in a closed loop. Heat is transferred through the stator core and other thermally conductive components to the motor outer surface, then dissipated to ambient air. The motor surface can be plain or ribbed; an additional outer shell can be equipped to improve heat exchange efficiency.

Self-circulation cooling: Coolant circulation is linked to the main motor rotational speed. It can be driven by rotor rotation, a dedicated rotor-mounted component, or fan/pump assembly mechanically coupled to the main rotor.

4. Packaging

Export standard seaworthy packaging. Options include plywood case or fumigated wooden case, suitable for long-distance sea and land transportation.

5. Warranty Period

Standard warranty: 12 months from commissioning date or 18 months after shipment, whichever comes first. Extended warranty service is available upon request. Please contact us for further information.
