When Is a Wound Rotor Induction Motor to Be Used
A wound rotor induction motor (also known as a slip ring induction motor) is specially deployed for demanding industrial operating scenarios where conventional squirrel cage motors fail to deliver optimal performance. It is primarily applicable under the following working conditions and industrial requirements:

It is used when industrial equipment requires high starting torque with low starting current. Thanks to its unique external rotor resistance design, the motor effectively limits starting current while boosting starting torque, making it ideal for heavy-duty equipment that needs to start under full load. It perfectly solves the problem of excessive starting current that occurs when squirrel cage motors drive heavy-load machinery, which is especially suitable for scenarios with insufficient power supply line capacity.
It is adopted when production operations involve long-time startup, frequent repeated startup cycles. Industries equipped with ball mills, rolling mills, crushers, sugar mills and other heavy starting equipment often need frequent device startup. The wound rotor induction motor features stable startup performance, smooth acceleration and strong overload resistance, which avoids equipment damage and power fluctuation caused by frequent startup of ordinary motors.
It is applied when small-range precise speed regulation is required for production processes. By adjusting the external resistance of the rotor circuit, the motor can achieve stepless speed regulation within a small range, meeting the variable speed operation demands of fans, compressors, pumps, hoists, conveyors and other industrial machinery in mining, power plants and manufacturing factories.
It is suitable for harsh and continuous long-term operation environments. Designed with robust steel plate welded box structure and Class F insulation, the motor features excellent mechanical strength, moisture resistance and stable insulation performance. It can operate stably in environments with ambient temperatures ranging from -15°C to 40°C and an altitude below 1000 meters (customizable for high-altitude and damp-heat working conditions), adapting to long-term continuous S1 duty operation in petrochemical, marine, mining and other harsh industrial scenarios.
Additionally, it is the preferred motor solution for scenarios that prioritize low noise, low vibration, energy efficiency and convenient daily maintenance. Its optimized structural design minimizes operational vibration and noise, while the externally arranged slip ring and carbon brush structure enables convenient inspection, replacement and maintenance, perfectly fitting remote industrial sites and equipment with difficult maintenance conditions.
