High Voltage Wound Rotor Motors in Heavy-Duty Industrial Drives

Basic Introduction of Wound Rotor Induction Motors

Wound rotor motors are specialized high-voltage three-phase asynchronous motors developed and manufactured based on years of extensive research and production experience. These motors adopt a robust box-type structure, with the frame constructed from welded steel plates to ensure a lightweight design and excellent rigidity.

The stator of these large high-voltage slip ring motors utilizes a slide-in external press-fit structure. The stator windings are insulated with Class F materials and feature reliable end fixing and bundling. During manufacturing, the windings undergo multiple inter-turn pulse voltage tests and ground pressure tests, followed by Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI) using solventless paint. This ensures outstanding insulation performance, high mechanical strength, and strong moisture resistance. Similarly, the wound rotors are treated with Class F insulation and VPI processes, with all weld heads and wiring fully insulated. To prevent toner or dust from entering the windings, the slip rings and stator windings are housed in two completely isolated spaces. Bearings are available in both rolling and sliding types, with the protection level increasing based on the motor's power and speed requirements. The main outlet box features IP54 protection and is typically installed on the right side of the motor (facing the shaft extension end), though left-side installation can be customized. It also includes a separate external ground terminal. Additionally, the top of the motor is equipped with an independent water-cooling system.

  • Key Features of Wound Rotor Motors
  • These large high-voltage wound rotor slip ring motors are engineered to deliver high starting torque while maintaining a low starting current. They are ideal for applications where the feeder line capacity is insufficient to start squirrel-cage rotors, or for operations requiring long starting times, frequent starts, and small-range speed regulation. This series of motors offers numerous advantages, including high efficiency, energy savings, low noise, low vibration, lightweight construction, reliable performance, and convenient installation and maintenance.
